The Holy Mundane

I had this thought bouncing through my mind this morning:

Mundane tasks done in faithfulness to the Lord take on a virtue and honor unheard of in the acts of Kings.

I was thinking of my job in accounting, and how I want to try to grow in practicing God's presence in my job.

Pour out your heart

"Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord" (Lamentations 2:19 NIV)

At the exhortation of my counselor/spiritual director, I've really been trying to practice this passage. Too long I have held the vagaries in my heart within and not let them out in the presence of God where they belong. There is much anger and pain that I feel, and it is a living hell to feel like I cannot unload it anywhere. Only God is safe enough.

Eventually, such openness becomes confession and offering; like a drink offering poured out on the altar of Christ. Then it can be released from my heart and fixed to the cross.
